2WD mode provides excellent fuel economy in normal, on-road driving conditions.
Under normal driving conditions in AUTO mode, most torque is delivered to the front wheels. When the automatic sensors detect the need for extra traction, the 4WD coupling activates instantaneously and transfer more torque to the rear wheels to prevent wheel-slip.
The mode locks the X-TRAIL in 4x4 with a fixed front-to-rear torque distribution ratio of 57:43 fro added traction, enabling the X-TRAIL to conquer any terrain at ease, on all surfaces and in all weather conditions.
